“Obesity can cause Osteoarthritis”

It is often assumed that the connection between lower-limb arthritis and excess body weight is merely due to the increased load these susceptible joints have to support, usually over many years, but it has been discovered that damage to the joint surface is due to a metabolic effect, caused by the release of the cytokines from adipose tissue. A direct inflammatory action in the process may lead to arthritis.
According to a study when the relative risk of radiographic osteoarthritis of the knee was checked for various weight groups, age, physical activity level, and uric acid level, It was discovered that women in the heaviest quintile for weight had more than double the risk of osteoarthritis in the knee, whereas men had 1.5 times the risk.

A study conducted at St Thomas Hospital discovered that obese people developed arthritis not only in knee but in the hands as well. People developed arthritis in their carpometacarpal joints, not to forget that these are not the weight bearing joints.

This implies a metabolic cause and suggests the scope for prevention of osteoarthritis by weight loss.

A combination of aerobic and resistance exercises are the most beneficial to the brain and other organs. Exercise improves blood circulation in the body and mind, and it leads to improved concentration," says Neeraj Mehta, a Delhi-based fitness expert. “HEY SWEET, CAREFUL WITH THE SWEETS!,” Tips by Fitness Expert & Nutritionist Neeraj Mehta

There is good news for the sweet lovers – you don’t have to give up on sweets for fear of gaining weight. All you have to do is choose the right ones to pamper your taste buds with.
Got a sweet tooth?
No meal is complete without the dessert for those with the proverbial sweet tooth. Since Indian food is calorie-rich, desserts are also typically sweet and packed with calories. So, if you are thinking of reducing your calorie intake, the first thing that comes to your mind is to say no to desserts. But, you don’t have to be so hard on your taste buds. In fact, there is no harm in liking sweet dishes or desserts since these too have healthy options to choose from. With Valentine’s Day falling this month, it is just not fair to say no to that red velvet cake or a lovely heart-shaped doughnut brought especially by your loved one. If you are planning a romantic dinner, here are some tips to help make you feel less guilty.

“Summer workouts,” Tips by Fitness Expert & Nutritionist Neeraj Mehta

Summer is the when everybody wants to look their best. This is the time to show off in your shorts and t-shirts. But before you can do that, you need to start working out. And what you need to remember is that the heat will make it harder to push yourself. Exercises like running, cycling, cross training and intensive training will make you more exhausted. So here’s how you can work out and still stay cool.
  1. Wear light cloths that breathe.
  2. Choose dry fit gear that can absorb or clear sweat.
  3. Drink plenty of water before, during and after the session to keep you hydrated.
  4. Modify or intensify your workout according to the temperature.
  5. Exercise in a properly ventilated indoor area with fans or AC.
  6. Divide your workout in short duration sessions.
  7. Watch for electrolyte imbalance.
  8. Take cold showers after the workout to help cool off.
  9. Take an expert advice or do it under supervision
  10. Exercise according to your fitness level
  11. Never compromise with the technique
